Lookout tower

The new triangulation tower on the Kaunispää fell was inaugurated on Monday 5 September 2011 in Saariselkä. The aim of the tower, which was built as a memorial, information point and lookout tower, is to nurture the long traditions of triangulation on Kaunispää.

The information boards at the tower describe the various phases of triangulation and mapping. The lookout point broadens the supply of experiences for tourists on Kaunispää.

The tower was built in collaboration with the Finnish Geodetic Institute, National Land Survey of Finland, the municipality of Inari and Lapland's Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
